LEGAL EXPERIENCE:

Hamp Baxley began the practice of law with Ramsey, Baxley & McDougle in August of 2001 and was named a partner of the firm in 2003. Mr. Baxley’s practice primarily consists of representing clients involved in domestic relations (divorce / child custody / child support), estates, real estate (residential and commercial real estate transactions / Landlord-Tenant eviction actions) and civil litigation. He regularly defends individuals and businesses that find themselves as defendants in civil lawsuits (lawsuits for money damages). Mr. Baxley has substantial experience in preparing and executing wills, corporate law (LLC/LLP/corporation formation and dissolution), real estate, and contracts and has also defended clients charged with criminal misdemeanors and felonies including but not limited to robbery, receiving stolen property, DUI / DWI, NWNI (bad checks), embezzlement, drug offenses, public intoxication, harassment and domestic abuse. Mr. Baxley also has experience in filing lawsuits on behalf of injured individuals and businesses as well as preparing appeals to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals and the Alabama Supreme Court.

Hamp maintains memberships in numerous legal professional organizations including the American Bar Association, Alabama State Bar, Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, Alabama Association for Justice and the Defense Research Institute. Hamp was elected to serve as the 20th Judicial Circuit’s representative on the Alabama State Bar’s Board of Bar Commissioners for the 2009-2012 term and served as President of the Houston County Bar Association in 2006. As a member of the Alabama State Bar’s Board of Bar Commissioners, Hamp has served on the Mandatory Continuing Education Committee, Will’s For Heroes Committee, Judicial Allocation Task Force and the Volunteer Lawyer’s Program. He also served as President of the Young Lawyer’s Section of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association in 2009-10. Hamp is the fourth generation of Baxley family lawyers in Dothan as he follows his great-grandfather, grandfather, father and uncle into the legal profession.

Hamp has an unwavering commitment to the legal profession and strives to promote professionalism within the profession. He is a regular guest lecturer on legal topics to various classes in and around the Wiregrass area, his firm is a proud Adopt-A-School participant (with Selma Street Elementary) and he is the local chairman of the periodic Wills For Heroes program, which provides free Last Will and Testament preparation for local law enforcement officers, fire department personnel and first responders.

Mr. Baxley’s goal is to tailor a client-specific legal plan that allows his clients to realistically gauge the possible and potential outcomes of their respective cases and to manage their litigation costs with as much precision as possible. While Mr. Baxley advocates attempting to find mutually acceptable resolutions to disputes, he understands and has no fear of taking cases to trial. Mr. Baxley’s core philosophy is to provide his clients with realistic expectations as to case-results and to accurately estimate litigation costs.

Hamp also has experience and training in alternative dispute resolution, primarily mediation. Hamp has completed basic mediation training (20 hour training), domestic / family mediation (40 hour training) and is an approved appellate mediator.
Mr. Baxley has represented clients in the following Alabama Courts:
